Chorouk is the first association created by women native to Boudnib. All of our members are female with education levels ranging from high school to university. Our association was created with the conviction that, if given a proper chance, Boudnib women could improve their lives and solve the daily problems and challenges they face.
Our goals are to improve child education while providing for their developmental needs. We also wish to help support and develop women so that they may improve both their own and their families’ daily lives and thus assume a more active role in society.
Although numerous financial constraints impede the realization of these objectives, we are determined to achieve our goals and help the women and children of Boudnib.
We work in several areas that are fundamental to development:
Education
The quality of education and teaching is crucial to the development of society, which is why our association is doing its best to ensure a better education for our community. We are currently offering the following courses.
- Pre-school:
- Grade 1: Four year olds
- Grade 2: Three year olds
- Grade 3: Between one and a half to two year olds
- Literacy Courses:
- Despite inadequate resources our association members are giving illiterate women a chance to learn how to read and write.
- Language Courses:
- Given the importance of languages in the wider world, we provide courses in both English and French.
- Workshops for children:
- We organize workshops to develop the creativity and expressiveness of children though reading, painting, sports, theater, and music.
- Computer training:
- Given their importance in today’s modern world, we offer courses in basic computer and Internet skills.
- Meetings to raise awareness amongst mothers on the importance of education.
- Training days for babysitters.
Culture and Entertainment
In addition to education, we are interested in culture and entertainment through activities such as:
- Parties and cultural events.
- School field trips.
- Organizing and participating in local and regional festivals.
- Encouraging women and children to participate in our various training activities.
Social Development
We are also interested in social activities through events such as:
- Donating items (such as clothing and food) to the poor.
- Organizing collective circumcision operations.
- Organizing community meetings to address important social topics.
Economic Assistance
So that women may improve their financial position and support their family:
- We offer courses in modern and traditional tailoring.
- We organize and participate in local and regional exhibitions to present local products and find potential new markets.
- We also seek to revive and preserve traditional tailoring through lectures and training days.
Health and Environment
We believe that prevention is better than a cure and seek to spread this motto through our community campaigns for a healthy lifestyle. We are doing this through health and hygiene awareness classes that promote healthy living, proper infant care, and AIDS awareness, among many other topics.
Environmental protection and the fight against pollution are also priorities for our association. We hold workshops for the community in order to raise local awareness for environmental protection.
