Geography
The urban center of Boudnib is located 87km south-east of the provincial capital Errachidia and consists of two municipalities: Boudnib (semi-urban) and the rural town Oued Naam.
Topography
Boudnib lies at an altitude of 925 meters, covers a total area of 4,700 square km, and is situated on a vast plateau bordered on the north by a mountain chain that extends from the High Atlas mountains.
Almost all the local residents live along the Oued Guir river and the surrounding oasis. The rest of the land is sandy and is only used as unregulated pasture due to the low rainfall, lack of infrastructure, and adequate financial resources.
Demography
The population is estimated at 16,070 inhabitants according to the 2004 census as follows:
1. Municipality Boudnib: 8,790
2. Rural Oued Naam: 7,280
Demographically, the center of Boudnib is a developing but poor urban region whose economy consists mainly of small traders and small-scale agriculture.
Economy
In economic terms, agriculture is the most important sector. The two main crops are the dates and olives, with average annual production estimated at 150 tons of dates and 200 tons of olives.
Livestock (sheep and goats) is the second most important sector, but this has suffered in recent years due to drought and the over exploitation of already poor pastures.
Tourism
The Boudnib region has several tourist attractions such as sand dunes, the desert, the Cahf Aziza cave, the former ksars of Boudnib and Oulad Ali, and the Tkoumite spring in Ksar Tazougarte. There are also several old monuments built by the French protectorate, but they have become dilapidated due to negligence and receive very little recognition since they are not advertised.
Local Association Activities
Despite the existence of more than 40 associations in Boudnib and Oued Naam, they have achieved little in the way of improving the lives of the local population. This is due to the lack of leadership, expertise, and material resources.
